چکیده

spinal cord injury (sci) results in up regulation and/or down regulation of several genes that may affect neuronal death and subsequent loss of motor function and also neuropathic pain. to expand a practical therapy, it is essential to recognize the specific molecular pathways altered as a function of time after spinal cord injury. this will help to develop strategies for positive manipulation of the helpful pathways and to inhibit poisonous pathways. using in situ hybridization, real time rt-pcr, genechip, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, microarray analysis, differential display pcr, total gene expression analysis (toga), serial analysis of gene expression (sage), rapid analysis of gene expression (rage), massively parallel signature sequencing (mpss), restriction-mediated differential display (rmdd), and megasort, changes in the mrnas and proteins abundance of several genes have been studied at different times after sci in human and animals. in this paper we will review changes in mrna levels of some genes in spinal cord injury. it has been shown that as early as 3 hours after sci, increased transcription, inflammation, neurotransmitter dysfunction, ionic imbalance and cytoskeletal damage can be seen. by a day after sci, in addition to these effects, endogenous attempts to repair/regenerate and functionally stabilize the injured spinal cord begins.

Effect of Trehalose on Neurocan and Neural-Glial Antigen 2 Genes Expression in Rats with Spinal Cord Injury

Background: Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs) are the major cause of axonal regeneration failure at the site of lesion in spinal cord injury (SCI). Inflammation is believed to stimulate the upregulation of CSPGs expression. Recent evidence showed that trehalose reduces the development of inflammation in SCI. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of trehalo...

Thermostabilized chondroitinase ABC Promotes Neuroprotection after Contusion Spinal Cord Injury

Background: Chondroitinase ABC (cABC), due to its loosening impact on the extracellular matrix scaffold, has been used to enhance regeneration of injured axonal tracts after spinal cord injury (SCI). However, cABC thermal instability at physiological temperature has limited its clinical application. The disaccharide trehalose has been shown to increase the stability of cABC in body temperature....

Alterations in AMPA receptor subunit expression after experimental spinal cord contusion injury.

The AMPA-preferring subtype of ionotropic glutamate receptors (GluRs) is a hetero-oligomeric ion channel assembled from various combinations of four subunits: GluR1, GluR2, GluR3, and GluR4. Antagonists of these receptors can mitigate the effects of experimental spinal cord injury (SCI), indicating that these receptors play a significant role in pathophysiology after spinal trauma. We tested th...

P 94: The Systemic Inflammation after Spinal Cord Injury

Spinal cord injury (SCI) actuate to complex cellular and molecular interactions within the central nervous system in a heave to repair the initial tissue damage. The pathophysiology of acute spinal cord injury (SCI) involves primary and secondary mechanisms. Neuroinflammation is an important secondary injury process in SCI. The local inflammatory microenvironment within the injured spinal cord ...

Influence of Sexuality in Functional Recovery after Spinal Cord Injury in rats

Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a major clinical condition and research is commonly done to find suitable treatment options. However, there are some degrees of spontaneous recovery after SCI and gender is said to be a contributing factor in recovery, but this is controversial. This study was done to compare the effects of sexual dimorphism on spontaneous recovery after spinal cord inj...
